The Beachcomber on Casey Key is a charming, family owned beachfront resort in Nokomis, Florida. The resort features a collection of cozy apartments and cottages with Gulf and bay views. What makes it special is its intimate, “Old Florida” vibe combined with modern comforts.  The resort has direct access to quiet, pristine white sand beaches, canal side boat docks, and attentive, personalized hospitality from the onsite owners, Tekla and Robert.

Tekla, a native of Northern Virginia, now manages and lives at the Beachcomber on Casey Key. Bringing her local roots and a keen eye for hospitality, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the resort with Robert, ensuring that every guest enjoys a warm, welcoming, and memorable stay. Their hands-on approach and personal connection to the property make the Beachcomber feel like a home away from home for visitors.

I first contacted Tekla and Robert to propose creating a virtual tour of The Beachcomber on Casey Key. There were some issues with the resort’s Google Business Profile that needed correction. I worked with Tekla to fix these problems and created a virtual tour.  At the time, The Beachcomber was listed as a two star hotel, but based on the amenities, cleanliness and upkeep, and quality of service I observed, it was clearly of a higher star rating class. I worked with Tekla to upgrade the hotel star category to three stars.

To do this, I first researched the source of the rating: Google had sourced it from Travelocity and Giata, with Travelocity also referencing Giata. I then contacted Giata GmbH in Berlin to determine what was required to update the hotel star rating.  Working with Tekla, we prepared and submitted a strong case to Giata, which resulted in the hotel star rating being updated to three stars. I then coordinated with Travelocity to reflect the new rating, and after nearly a year of follow up, Google finally updated the hotel star category.  This project not only improved the resort’s online accuracy and visibility, but also ensured that its quality and the care that Tekla and Robert put into it are properly represented to potential guests.
